Open to girls and boys resident in the Arklow area and under the age specified on July 31st in the year competitions are taking place.

Age groups are over six and under 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 years.

Competitors must be able to swim at least one length of pool.

Events

Under  8 & over  6 – one length  of pool – Freestyle

Under 10 & over  8 – one length  of pool – Freestyle

Under 10 & over  8 – one length  of pool – Backstroke

Under 12 & over 10 – two lengths of pool – Freestyle

Under 12 & over 10 – two lengths of pool – Backstroke

Under 12 & over 10 – two lengths of pool – Breaststroke

Under 14 & over 12 – two lengths of pool – Freestyle

Under 14 & over 12 – two lengths of pool – Backstroke

Under 14 & over 12 – two lengths of pool – Breaststroke

Under 14 & over 12 – two lengths of pool – Butterfly

Under 16 & over 14 – two lengths of pool – Freestyle

Under 16 & over 14 – two lengths of pool – Backstroke

Under 16 & over 14 – two lengths of pool – Butterfly

Relays

Under 13 & over 10 – Panel of six, four to swim with two subs.

4×1 length of pool – Freestyle.

Under 16 & over 13 – Panel of six, four to swim with two subs.

4×50 Medley – order Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Freestyle.

Competitors name, address, date of birth, home telephone number and five euro entry fee must be with James O’Reilly 17 Fernhill, Arklow, County Wicklow on or before Monday the 19th of February 2018, phone 91085.

Area finals will take place if necessary.

County finals will take place at the Coral Leisure Swimming Pool, Arklow on Saturday the 10th of March at 3pm.

National finals will take place in Limerick on the week ending Friday, Saturday, Sunday the 25th 26th 27th of May 2018.

Art

158 children whose ages ranged from six to sixteen years entered exhibits through their schools for our 2017 area art competitions,38 medals, ten gold, ten silver and eighteen bronze were presented to the winning artists through their schools.

Gymnastics

February 2017 Orlaith Holt was crowned Arklow young gymnast of the year for 2016 and Jack Burke the most improved young gymnast.

95 gymnasts participated at our Festival of Gymnastics competitions, a packed Arklow Gymnastics Centre was treated to three hours of outstanding floor routines, area and county chairman Michael Kenny presented the festival medals and trophies.

28 young gymnasts qualified from the above competitions to represent Arklow Community Games at the county finals which took place at the Arklow Gymnastics Centre in March 2017. Arklow Gymnasts displayed tremendous artistic skills on floor and vault winning 21 medals, six gold, six silver, nine bronze and Arklow retained the Lily Kavanagh perpetual shield for the fifteenth season, Wicklow county board officers presented the county medals and shield.

The gold medalists went forward to represent their area and county at the National Community Games Golden Jubilee Finals which took place at the National Gymnastics Centre Abbotstown on Saturday the 6th of May 2017. No medals were won but the magnificent six did their area and county proud.

Swimming

12 children represented Arklow Community Games at the County Finals which took place at the Coral Leisure Swimming Pool Arklow in March 2017. Arklow swimmers excelled in their individual and relay performances winning 14 medals, six gold, three silver and five bronze.

The gold medalists went forward to represent their area and county at the National Community Games Golden Jubilee Finals which took place at the National Aquatic Centre Abbotstown on Saturday the 6th of May 2017.

In the girls under 14 freestyle final Lucy bracken finished in the silver medal position, the girls under 13 relay squad qualified for the final finishing just out of the medals.

Talent

5 children represented Arklow Community Games at the county finals which took place in Glenealy in May 2017. Excellence in their singing and recitations resulted in Arklow winning 4 medals, three gold and one silver.

The gold medalists went forward to represent their area and county at the National Community Games Golden Jubilee Finals which took place at the National Conference Centre Abbotstown on Sunday the 20th of August 2017.

In the girls under 12 solo singing final the beautiful voice of Roisin Vigors came out on top winning the gold medal for Arklow and County Wicklow. Roisin then joined up with her brother Fionn for the group singing final, they gave their best finishing just out of the medals,

This brings the curtain down on another most successful season 270 children whose ages ranged from six to sixteen years participated in six different types of sporting and cultural activities at area, county, provincial and national level.

Art, Gymnastics, Group Singing, Swimming, Solo Singing, Solo Recitations.

As we enter our 40th season our aim is to encourage and foster community spirit and a love of sport and culture among the members of our community and most particularly amongst the young people.

We are on the lookout for fresh new volunteers interested in helping to coach/organize children in community games activities such as art, athletics, ball throw, chess, cycling on grass, draughts, drama, debating, gymnastics, group singing, group dance, group music, hand writing, long puck, model making, swimming, skittles, solo singing, solo dance, solo music, solo recitations, table quiz, tag rugby.
